Centenary
Campsie Public School has its Centenary this year. Below is the forward from the excellent history wtitten by Mrs Pat Rogerson. This publication can be purchased at the school office for $20.
"The suburb of Campsie’s growth and development is mirrored in the growth and development of Campsie Public School and has resulted in the type of school we are today. A rapidly developing suburb needed and fought for a high quality “Public School” The suburb’s race from rural setting to burgeoning new suburb on the outskirts of Sydney ensured the school’s establishment. The suburb’s transition over a hundred years into a vibrant multicultural “inner city” suburb sees our sophisticated and successful high quality Public School still serving the ever changing needs of its community.
Campsie’s consolidation into an established suburb saw two world wars and a depression where the school in partnership with students and parents served the wider community. As many Australians suffered during the period this struggle was reflected in the life of the school. This struggle included former Campsie students sacrificing their lives during war and the sight of students with no shoes due to difficult times.
The prosperous post war times were reflected in the suburb of Campsie and its school. Campsie was now an established suburb. Sydney’s urban development saw it now as a desirable location close to the city and evolve as a preferred residence for successive waves of new settlers..
As our nation has been built on the success of migration so has the recent success of Campsie Public School. The Campsie Public School Community has been practising multiculturalism long before the term was developed and well before it became a government policy.
Today we have a harmonious school environment reflecting the benefit of a proud history. This history has resulted in many thousands receiving a superb “Public Education”, leading successful lives contributing to their country, be it the country of their birth or their new country.
It is with some pride we can report that as we commence our second century in serving this community we are a growing and successful institution going from strength to strength. Campsie Public School will continue to evolve and prosper through its next century as it undertakes this service.
It is both a pleasure and an honour to be the principal of Campsie Public School in its centenary year and I wish the community well as we all celebrate the history and achievements of our wonderful “Public school”."
